National Police Memorial Day
Sunday 3rd October 2004 is the first National Police Memorial Day. A service will take place in St Paul's Cathedral to recognise police officers that have made the ultimate sacrifice carrying out their daily duties serving and protecting their communities. This will provide a fitting tribute to the amazing courage and dedication to duty shown by fallen officers. The day will also give family, relatives, friends and colleagues of those killed whilst on duty a focus for their grief.
"The death of any police officer is always a tragedy for their relatives, friends and colleagues and for the police service as a whole. It is only right and proper that there should be public recognition of their sacrifice protecting society. "
Jan Berry, Chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales
