'Old' New Scotland Yard

Known as the Norman Shaw Building, after the Architect who designed it in 1860?, this is the original 'New Scotland Yard' building, which the force outgrew well before it eventually moved to its present location in The Broadway off Victoria Street more than 100 years later. This is the site that was always associated with 'The Yard' in early films and TV series dating from Sherlock Holmes in the 30's through to No Hiding Place in the early 60s. It last featured as the Met's HQ in the film Day of the Jackal set in 1963, but shot by Fred Zimmerman in 1973. The building has since been occupied by MPs unable to find sufficient office space in the nearby Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament). The building next door is the former police station called Canon Row, which is now the headquarters of policing in Westminster Borough.

Nearest Tube/train stations: Westminster (two minutes walk) via Jubilee, District & Circle lines, Embankment (five minutes walk) via Bakerloo, District, Circle and Northern lines, St James' Park (twelve minutes walk across St James' Park passed the cabinet War Rooms) via District & Circle lines, or Charing Cross (ten minutes walk) via Jubilee or South West trains (via mainline station).

Nearest Water Taxi service: Westminster Pier (opposite)
