'Old' New Scotland Yard
Known as the Norman Shaw Building, after the Architect who designed it in 1860?, this is the original 'New Scotland Yard' building, which the force outgrew well before it eventually moved to its present location in The Broadway off Victoria Street more than 100 years later.
New Scotland Yard
The administrative centre of the Metropolitan police Service (MPS) since 1967. The building is home to the world famous 'revolving sign' that almost always features in any news bulletin or TV show about London's police.
Great Scotland Yard and Whitehall Place
The building is currently the home of central London's Mounted Branch officers. This stables is literally just around the corner from 4 Whitehall Place, the original 'Scotland Yard' where Sir Robert Peel based his 'New Police'.
Bow Street
Probably London's first recognisable police station, it pre-dates the formation of the Metropolitan Police force in 1829. This was the home of the Bow Street Magistrates who ran what amounted to formal policing in the capital during the late 18th century.
Thames Division
This plaque marks the spot where London's Marine Police were based in Wapping High Street, Tower Hamlets in 1798 (thirty-one years before the birth of the Met).
